Industria Receives Global Telecoms Award

Industria and Inuk Networks Win Best IPTV/VOD Project by a New Player

London, September 17, 2007 -

Industria, a leading IPTV solutions provider, and Inuk Networks, an innovative UK triple-play operator, received an award for the best ‘IPTV/VOD Project by Newcomer’ at the Global Telecoms – Business Innovation Awards.

The award was collected by Marcus Liassides, CEO of Inuk, and Stefan Baxter, CTO of Industria, at the awards ceremony held last night in the prestigious Gladstone Library in Whitehall, London. The awards ceremony, which is an international event, was well attended by senior representatives from telecom companies from around the world.

This award follows the successful launch of Inuk’s Freewire Service, which is on the track to become the biggest IPTV deployment in the UK within its first year of operation. Freewire is initially aimed at university students in halls of residence. Inuk will be launching a trial service for Canadian students before the end of this year.

Inuk Networks selected Industria’s Zignal Entertainment Delivery Platform for its Freewire IPTV service. Several ground breaking features found in Zignal contribute to the success of Freewire, one of which is Igloo, the first virtual set-top box for watching television on a personal computer. Igloo is the culmination of the close co-operation and strong business relationship between Industria and Inuk Networks.

The Zignal software suite is an open and standards-based solution that enables immediate deployment of a scalable service, with easy integration into existing legacy systems. Having a single management solution for the distribution of IPTV services greatly reduces technical overhead for solution providers and enables them to focus on developing revenue-generating services rather than building networks. This is evident in the innovative business model of Inuk, which is UK’s first true triple-play service provider that only uses third party networks.

“We are very pleased to receive this award on the same occasion as Oracle, Alcatel-Lucent, Huawei Technologies, and other major companies, which are largest vendors in their fields on the telecoms market,” said Stefan Baxter, CTO of Industria, who has been leading a multinational development team in developing and adapting Zignal.

“It is important to get recognition for this unique project and the special vision we presented to Inuk, which led to Industria being selected from a group of tough competitors,” continues Baxter.

The editor of Global Telecoms Business, Alan Burkitt-Gray, said when presenting the Award that they were "a way of saying congratulations to the telecoms industry for doing such a stunning job". This industry has been through tough times, but now "throughout the world you are creating such a wave, such a flood of innovation, that is making a real difference to business, to our economy and to the way we live", he told the 180 industry leaders who attended the Awards dinner, at the historic One Whitehall Place in London.

"The telecoms industry is helping people become self-sufficient, helping them feed themselves and to develop economically. We should all be proud of that. That's why we in Global Telecoms Business have decided to hold these Innovation Awards. We wanted to say congratulations to the men and women in the industry — operators and vendors alike — who are making such a difference to the world. We want to celebrate what you're doing."
