Nova Launches 3G Network Built by Industria Subsidiary INS

INS serving as the main contractor for Iceland's first purpose-built 3G network

Today saw the launch Iceland's first purpose-built 3G network. Acting on behalf of greenfield 3G mobile network operator Nova, Industria handled all key aspects of the project.

Industria was selected by Nova to design and build the operation from the ground up. The project was handled by INS Iceland, Industria's subsidiary for network services, from the initial analysis phase and all the way through to the launch, including overall system integration, project management of various elements of the build-up, and providing a range of value-added services.

INS provided oversight of the 3G-wireless site acquisition and the fibre backbone interconnections, as well as assistance regarding the choice and installation of all core network systems and data centres, wireless transmission cells, masts and other equipment.

The Nova network is based on 3G HSDPA leading-edge technology, delivered by Huawei Technologies. With very high data throughput, Nova has the ability to deliver high-bandwidth, high-value interactive entertainment services to its subscribers, on a robust and reliable network.

Zignal, Industria's flagship software product, was selected for content delivery. This includes the new Zignal Mobile Client, an extension to the Zignal Server that enables streaming content to light-weight clients, as well as mobile-specific asset management, such as ring tone downloads. Utilising Zignal for content delivery means that Nova only has to manage a single delivery platform for all content, including TV streams and Video on Demand, as well as traditional mobile content.

The Nova project was completed within a short time-frame and with unsurpassed speed of deployment. Only 3 months elapsed from the initial go-ahead to the first system deployment.
